Mitchell D. Creinin, M.D.
Senior Clinical Advisor
Dr. Creinin is currently a Professor in the
Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at
the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he serves as
Division Director for Gynecologic Specialties and as Director of
Family Planning. He also has secondary appointments in the
University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science
Institute, as a Senior Investigator in the Magee-Womens Research
Institute, and as a Professor of Epidemiology in the Graduate School
of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Creinin
graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Northwestern University Medical
School in Chicago, IL. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr.
Creinin completed two fellowships at the University of California,
San Francisco: a Family Planning fellowship from the Department of
Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and a Clinical
Research Fellowship from the Departments of Medicine and
Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Creinin has been a lead
investigator for numerous clinical trials spanning more than 15
years, including being the overall principal investigator for
multicenter studies and data coordinating centers. Dr. Creinin
receives research funding from the NIH, USAID, private foundations
and industry. He is a well-respected author of more than 125
peer-review papers in addition to numerous review articles, book
chapters and books related to Family Planning and Contraception.
Ahvie Herskowitz, M.D.
Senior Advisor Operations
Dr. Herskowitz co-founded the Institute for
OneWorld Health, where he acted as Chief Operating Officer and Chief
Medical Officer from 2000 to 2009. With Dr. Hale, he raised over
$150 million in grants and managed rapid growth of domestic and
international operations, developing business, legal and governance
best practices for a new philanthropy-driven drug development model.
Prior to OneWorld Health, Dr. Herskowitz directed large-scale
clinical trials, epidemiologic and outcome studies at the Ischemia
Research and Education Foundation (IREF), a clinical and central
analysis unit for 300+ investigators in 160 hospital centers
worldwide. He is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine at the
University of California at San Francisco.
Andrew A. Mascarenhas, M.A.
Senior Advisor
Mr. Mascarenhas has spent his working career, of
more than 30 years, in the pharmaceutical industry holding
international management positions across Asia, Europe, the
Caribbean and the U.S. He has been Country Head in the Caribbean
Basin Region, India, Italy and Japan over the period 1988-2003. He
retired from Eli Lilly and Company as Corporate Vice President,
Sales and Marketing in 2004. He received his B.Sc.in Chemistry from
the University of Bombay, India and M.A. in Natural Sciences from
the University of Cambridge, England.
J. Joseph Speidel, MD, MPH
Senior Reproductive Health Advisor
Dr. Speidel is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Francisco. He also serves as Director for Communication, Development and External Relations, in the UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. Dr. Speidel is a graduate of Harvard College in chemistry and physics and a graduate of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Speidel’s previous positions include direction of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) population research program and overall direction of the USAID Office of Population where he had oversight over the world’s largest program of population and family planning assistance. Subsequently Dr. Speidel served as vice president and president of Population Action International (PAI), and between 1995 and 2003, he directed the population grants program of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Dr. Speidel recently served on the board of directors of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, Ipas, the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association and as founding co-chair and member of the board of the Funders Network on Population, Reproductive Health & Rights. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Pacific Institute for Women’s Health and Population Connection. Dr. Speidel is the author of more than 95 articles and chapters and editor or author of 14 books and monographs on issues relating to family planning, contraception, and population. His professional accomplishments have been recognized by various awards, the most recent being the Allan Rosenfield Award for Lifetime Contributions to International Family Planning from the Society of Family Planning.
